My name is Mrs J Roché, and I am a serial online shopper.
There. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way…
Online shopping can seem a little intimidating, especially when it comes to purchasing large furniture items. There are definitely pros and cons involved:
Pros:
- Convenience. People, you can literally furnish your entire home without leaving your couch. Who wants to stand in long lines, fighting over the last whatchamacallit on Black Friday? I had a bad experience-don’t ask.
- Price. Most of the time the deals are waaaaay better if you shop online, even after shipping is included.
- Variety. There’s so many options to choose from when you’re shopping online vs. in-store. Unless you’re taking a trip to your favorite store every week, good finds are hard to come by, and the quantities in-store are usually low.
- Did I mention price? Yep, that’s a biggie for me.
Cons:
- You could end up with a lemon. Things are not always what they seem. I’ll admit there have been a few times where I got “catfished” and purchased an item based on the “beautiful photos”, only to realize that it was a knock-off version of what was advertised.
- Delay. The shipping timeframes can be a bit of a nuisance, especially if you’re ordering large pieces, which can take upwards of 8 weeks to be delivered. I know you’ve dreamt about sitting on that new couch, coffee-in-hand, and sometimes, you just don’t want to wait 8 weeks to do it. Haven’t you heard the expression, “Good things come to those who wait”? (Asking for a friend.)
Last year my husband and I started the process of making some pretty cool changes in our home, so I decided to start a #HousetoHome series and document the process.
I’m so obsessed with a good before and after situation-from the smallest DIY projects to the larger professional home renovations. I’ll admit that sometimes home renos can be pretty intimidating, especially when you’re binge-watching HGTV morning, noon and night.
Our first major upgrade was our bed frame and mattress in our master bedroom, which I am in love with. I purchased everything online, and the process was seamless from start to finish.
Anytime I purchase large furniture pieces online, I always practice these 5 steps, which I’ve listed below. Let’s face it, when you’re spending large amounts of money, you definitely want to be satisfied. You can absolutely get high-quality furniture pieces that you love, all from the comfort of your home.
Here’s 5 Tips to Consider Before Purchasing Furniture Online:
- Measure the space.-Definitely do not skip this step. You don’t want to prolong your order by having to ship it back because it was too big/small. I measure at least three times before placing my order.
- Shop around before making a purchase.-You never want to commit to the first website you find. Chances are, the same item is available somewhere else for a better price.
- Read the customer reviews.–Major key. This step is probably the most time-consuming, but it’s one of the most important. The consumer doesn’t lie. When they are spending their hard-earned money, they will give you the honest, unfiltered truth.
- Look for videos of the product online.-Photos are one thing, but there’s nothing like a good old-fashioned video review of the furniture that will give you the most accurate details relating to true color, size, etc.
- Make your purchase through a cash back website.-If you’re going to shop anyway, why not get paid for it? There are several sites that will offer you cash back for making your purchase through them, and many of them even offer discount codes towards your purchase. Check out my favorite cash back site HERE.
