How We Worship on Sundays: Our New Church Routine During a Pandemic

Part of being a Christian is

  • knowing how to endure hardness as a good soldier
  • falling down and getting back up again
  • waiting on the Lord
  • insert your favorite “hard times” scripture here…

But you never truly know if you can endure hardness if you’ve never been put in a hard situation.

This pandemic is hard. Really hard.

Nevertheless, we as Believers can’t allow this setback to cause us to get sidetracked from His plan for our lives.

One of the ways that we keep our focus on our purpose is staying connected to our local church. Although we’re not able to gather together in one building,

we are the church, and the church is us.

There are several different ways that we stay connected to our local church, but the primary avenue is through our live stream. With everything that’s going on right now, we need a Word from God– and not just one Word. So we make it a point to live stream consistently, and our Pastor drops life-changing gems every week.

Our morning usually goes a little something like this…

After showering and having my coffee and personal devotion, I head over to my makeup chair.

Yep, you read that right. I wear light makeup on Sundays.

Not every Sunday, but most.

I’m a firm believer of feeling good when you look good. It’s very important to me to always anticipate my time with God on Sundays. Prior to COVID, I regularly wore makeup to church. Continuing to do so makes me feel a sense of normalcy.

While I’m getting ready, the hubs is usually getting the boys dressed.

After makeup and hair, I get dressed and make my way to the kitchen to start breakfast. On Sundays, we skip the cereal and go for a larger breakfast. It usually consists of pancakes or waffles with bacon, sausage and eggs.

We didn’t have enough eggs on this particular day, but after each person was blessed with two extra pieces of bacon, I promise you they definitely did not miss the eggs.

Usually by the time the kids are sitting down for breakfast, Hiram is out of the shower and going through his grooming routine.

After we eat and we’re groomed, we praise! This is my kid’s absolute favorite part of our day (after the bacon).

Once we’ve burned off all the bacon fat, it’s time to settle down and hear a Word from our Pastor. She’s currently teaching a series on, “The Axe Head Anointing”, and it is fire.

After the service is over, we spend a few minutes discussing with the kids what we learned. Each person gets an opportunity to stand up and share one thing, and my oldest son always wants to go first. After Jajuan’s third closing (we don’t call him “The Young Preacher” for nothing), we tidy up. Hiram cleans the kitchen, and we change into our comfy clothes before splitting up and doing our own things.

I opt for the Sunday nap, for I am convinced that Sunday naps are the closest thing to heaven on earth.

Until next time…
